From Canada to Punta Cana!

Hello! We’re Gillian and Frank we are Canadians and together, we have purchased a restaurant nestled in Los Corales. At home, we’re pet parents to three energetic dogs and a curious cat. Our two grown children still live in Canada but visit often—thankfully, they will be just a flight away!

Our Canadian Journey

Before making this decision, our lives were rooted in Ontario. I spent years in Toronto working in special-event management, organizing fundraisers, galas, golf tournaments, and conferences for various charities. Then, craving a slower pace, we relocated to Prince Edward County, not far from Kingston. There I managed more than 70 Airbnb properties, while Frank cooked at a local winery, diving headfirst into the hospitality world.

Falling in Love with DR

In 2022, we purchased a home in Punta Cana and began renting it out when we weren’t there. Each visit deepened our affection for the Dominican Republic—which, offers everything from vibrant culture to stunning beaches and exploring different areas of the country.  Slowly but surely, the pull to this paradise became irresistible.

A Permanent Move

So, in December 2024, we will make it official: we will move here full-time.

Why Punta Cana?

  • Breathtaking beaches & outdoor adventures – from snorkeling colorful reefs to hiking through nearby parks and exploring ecological reserves.

  • Authentic Dominican flavors – fresh seafood, passion‑fruit juice and Presidente beer are staples we’ve embraced.

  • Vibrant local life – Los Corales’ warm community, local festival vibes, and the thriving restaurant scene make every day feel like a welcome celebration.

What’s Next for Us?

  • Canada: Packing, selling our house, downsizing

  • Dominican: Finalizing the deal to close the restaurant, working on menus, items for renovation

Final Thoughts

Moving here will be more than a change of scenery – it will be a lifestyle transformation. From Toronto’s energy to PEC’s charm to the Caribbean’s warmth, every chapter has taught us something new. We’re thrilled to be building new roots here and can’t wait to share more of our journey.
